Really good essay, that I've passed on to my college student (in simulation programming) children. There's real wisdom in there, no matter how long the author has been coding, there's no doubt some mileage has been racked up. I've been coding since the 70s (in the beginning there was _basic basic_), but have spent most of my tech career in system administration where most of my programming has been for utility scripts in various shells, perl and python. Still, because I've worked closely with developers over the decades, "programming is easy" is a falsehood I've experienced many times over -- and one I don't think is helpful at all (any more than "masks won't help you avoid being infected).
