There's two things here that seem to be competing with eachother. A life well lived and the economic fecundity of a life. Two very separate things and only sometimes do they cross.
Playing a single video game obsessively is bad for both. If you dabbled in many different creative and technical pursuits, you'd probably be happier than spending 10 hours reoptimizing your factorio line if you learned to speak spanish, play the sax and knew how to code in python. Learning in real life, without the immediate feedback of a game is harder for sure, but more rewarding in the end. However, you should never look at your time spent in the lens of economic fecundity for 'Others'. that never ends well.
