I thought about this topic many times too, but I believe neither is better than the other. Below is just my personal idea, nothing really well founded. “Descriptive” software accelerates exploration, and “prescriptive” software is a lower-complexity implementation, either a prototype or optimized for specific purpose. While “prescriptive” normally offers better performance (for the purpose it is designed for), “descriptive” tends to linger around longer because of it flexibility, but neither is permanent anyway. Making a progress is merely going through those two back and forth again and again. There’s no end.
