An 8-speed transmission is going to be absolutely adequate for almost everyone riding a bike in cities. Yes some cities have extreme geography and are going to be exceptions but come on. No practical or recreational rider in a major european city needs a 600% gear range. I live in a hilly place with a 3-speed hub and I am not a particularly strong rider at all. It's fine!
