FDA slams “Real Water” linked to liver failure; water plant manager MIA
- aaron695 6y agoThe only ingredient is potassium bicarbonate - https://mynews4.com/news/local/gallery/fda-alkaline-water-under-investigation-in-nevada-still-being-sold-online#photo-1 https://mynews4.com/news/local/gallery/fda-alkaline-water-un... This feels like the vaping BS all over again. Alkaline water doesn't give you non-viral hepatitis. There must be some guesses on the possible contaminants. If covid has messed with potassium bicarbonate's supply chain other companies probably need to know. Or it's not "Real Water" and something else at a shared store which people wash down with "Real Water". Or someone is making their own 'Real Water" with a cheap chemical.
- LorenPechtel 6y agoOr it could be something like what happened in Flint--the water was safe as produced, it reacted with it's containment. Maybe the bottles are reacting badly with the potassium bicarbonate.
- splithalf 6y agoMy bet is counterfeit water sold on AMazon. No solution as long as online retail and drop shipping are a thing. I wonder how much bottled water bought online is fake; tap water with counterfeit labels.
- hellotomyrars 6y agoAccording to the original reporting it was traced to their own home delivery program.
- randycupertino 6y agoWhen I was in LA for a work trip a few months ago, alkaline water was being pushed everywhere- fancy restaurants, even gas stations had "We Sell Alkaline Water!!" signs out front.
- spfzero 6y agoHard to understand why anyone would think it is a good idea to drink water with a pH of 9.0! Our biochemistry works in a very narrow pH range (7), and there are all sorts of mechanisms that work hard to keep it in that range. Have to admit that I've not heard of any of the promoted benefits. What are they?
- washadjeffmad 6y agoIncreased profits for water thieves, I imagine.
- viciousvoxel 6y agoHere in MA, most of the tap water supplied by MWRA (many cities/townships) is pH 9-9.5. I think mine was closer to 9.6 last time I checked. I would think if the water is indeed at fault in this case it's due to specific additives/contaminants, not the pH itself.
- splithalf 6y agoWhat the hell does “slams” mean? The government shouldn’t be allowed to use the media to “slam” people. Enforce the laws or don’t.
- geranim0 6y agoslam is an especially brutal and groovy subgenre of death metal characterized by heavily downtuned stupid caveman riffs
