When it talks about the wooden crosses rising among the crowd on the Capitol, it reminded me of Tim Minchin: "the sort of cross you might wear if you're a fan of... intersections. Or the lowercase letter 'T'. Or probably most commonly, if you're a fan of the apparatus by which first-century Romans put to death and tortured Jewish insurgents."
Totally agree with cgrealy, I cringed when the author called the Prosperity Gospel (never heard of it before but I don't live in the USA) a fake religion, as if there was any religion that wasn't made up. I like to think of it like this: Consider tribal shamanic rituals and beliefs in the Amazon region. Most likely most people on the first world would consider such practices and beliefs primitive and a bit ridiculous, but understand the context of its people and look on them condescendingly, and that includes Christians of all denominations as well as Muslims. Now, atheists might think exactly the same about Christians, Muslims and any other religions, that their beliefs are primitive, and their rituals a bit ridiculous.
