- alexlmiller 6y agoTesla dwarfs everybody else combined: https://cleantechnica.com/2021/02/08/2020-us-electric-vehicle-sales-report/ https://cleantechnica.com/2021/02/08/2020-us-electric-vehicl...
- tonfa 6y agoWorldwide data: https://cleantechnica.com/files/2021/02/World-plugin-vehicle-sales-top-automakers-2020-CleanTechnica.png https://cleantechnica.com/files/2021/02/World-plugin-vehicle... VW is pretty impressive, did they have any popular electric vehicle before last year? edit: Yes, they have a massive growth indeed, if they continue like that they'll likely overtake tesla already this year: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1130931_vw-group-sold-almost-half-as-many-evs-as-tesla-in-2020-and-it-s-just-getting-warmed-up https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1130931_vw-group-sold-al...
- IdiocyInAction 6y agoVW has the ID.3 and ID.4 in Europe, which are fairly successful.

- foepys 6y agoVW plans to produce 1.5 million EVs per year ~in their Zwickau plant~ worldwide from 2025 onwards. They are also evaluating more plants to switch to full EV production. Tesla expects to make 500.000 cars per year in their German plant they are currently building. Edit: 330.00 in Zwickau, 1.5 million world-wide.
- reitzensteinm 6y agoDo you have a source for that? As far as I know, Zwickau has already made its last ICE and they're targeting 1k units a day - and not seven days a week. Are you sure you're not mixing up total VW BEV numbers?
- foepys 6y agoThank you for the correction. I misread. https://www.volkswagen-newsroom.com/en/zwickau-3755 https://www.volkswagen-newsroom.com/en/zwickau-3755
- ajross 6y agoThose are "plugin" sales, which includes hybrids along with EVs.
- w0m 6y agoTesla has by far the early mover advantage here; the % growth of the traditional players moving forward will be key as Big Guys start taking the market more seriously.
- cowmix 6y agoQ1 Mach-E sales: 6,614
- jermaustin1 6y agoWow... that is just comically low. I know the Mach-E is supposed to be more "luxury" than the consumer facing model 3/Y it copied from, but to only sell 7000 of them means they aren't even trying to sell them. Maybe that is because the individual dealers have the ultimate say in what they sell, but still, there have to be at least 7000 Ford dealers in the world, and they should have been able to sell at least 3 each.
- cowmix 6y agoI have a feeling the Mach-E sales will ramp up a lot more. The reviews are generally good and Ford EVs, for now, qualify for the tax credit.
- dahfizz 6y agoI think it is more of a production issue than a sales issue. The Mach-E will sit on a dealer lot an average of 7 days. https://insideevs.com/news/498351/us-ford-mache-sales-q12021/ https://insideevs.com/news/498351/us-ford-mache-sales-q12021...
- wongarsu 6y agoVolkswagen sold 134000 EVs in 2020, so about 33000 per quarter. Ford sold 6600 Mach-E in Q1. Judging by this great report [1] you would expect a worldwide market of about 800k EVs in Q1 2021, with Tesla and Wuling as the most significant producers. 1: https://insideevs.com/news/498088/global-plugin-car-sales-february-2021/ https://insideevs.com/news/498088/global-plugin-car-sales-fe...

- dahfizz 6y ago> Volkswagen sold 134000 EVs in 2020 Does this number include all their plug in hybrids? I find it very hard to believe they sold that many E-trons and Golf-E's. Do they have other electric vehicles I don't know about?
- reitzensteinm 6y agoNo, that's the number for BEVs. As linked elsewhere, BEV + PHEV was 220k. VW had a bunch of vehicles including the Taycan, ID.3 and however you spell e-up. They're ramping up very quickly, although it hasn't been without its teething pains and they're still well behind Tesla. https://cleantechnica.com/files/2021/02/World-plugin-vehicle-sales-top-automakers-2020-CleanTechnica.png https://cleantechnica.com/files/2021/02/World-plugin-vehicle...
- codeulike 6y agoApparently this is just EVs, props to VW. Looks like the ID.3 wasn't sold in the US which is why you may not have heard of it. VW Group's top-selling EV in 2020 was the VW ID.3 with 56,500 deliveries, followed by the Audi E-Tron (47,300 deliveries) and VW e-Golf (41,300 deliveries). This year, VW Group will start sales of the VW ID.4, which will likely be a bigger hit than the ID.3 due to its SUV body style. The ID.4 will also be sold in the United States, unlike the ID.3. There will also be an Audi version of the ID.4 this year, which will go by the name Q4 E-Tron, and Audi will also launch this year its own version of the Taycan, the E-Tron GT. Other VW Group brands also plan to launch various EVs this year. https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1130931_vw-group-sold-almost-half-as-many-evs-as-tesla-in-2020-and-it-s-just-getting-warmed-up https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1130931_vw-group-sold-al...
- neogodless 6y agoI think it's also interesting to zoom out and look at all car sales[0]. Globally, about 56 million cars sold in 2020 (or about 14 million per quarter), down from 65.5 million in 2019. China was the largest market with nearly 20 million sales, followed by the United States with 14.5 million. Comparing the estimate of 14 million per quarter, Tesla hitting 183,000 sales would account for 1.31% of global sales. That is small, but also given how many manufacturers they are, it's by no means insignificant (and of course leading in EVs.) Globally, Toyota sold 8.7 million cars (2.17m / quarter) or 15.5% of global sales. In the US, GM sold 2.5 million cars (637k / quarter) in the U.S. or 17.6% of US sales.
