Self-referencing doomsday argument rebuttal

I read an article by some educated professor backing the doomsday argument and the logic of it just feels like an abuse of our implicit understanding of logic rather than actual logic, like those puzzle stories that sound right in every sentence but a closer look at first principles reveals a glaring mistake. I feel like there is that same glaring error in the doomsday argument more directly (rather than this funny indirect proof) but I can’t think of it.
