The one thing that keeps me using ThinkPads is the Hardware Maintenance Manual (Which Lenovo has since butchered) I've got a complete disassembly guide and every possible combination of parts that are compatible with my laptop plus the FRU's so I can actually go order specific replacements should something fail. I just bought myself a Dell Precision M6700 to lug around the office and while its easy to work on, quick to disassemble, I've found no comparable parts lookup for it. So when I eventually get around to upgrading this to an IPS panel and a GTX 980M, I'm going to have to go skulk around random forums for part numbers like some kind of caveman.
