Gmail was invite only and I believe the first example of such practice to create hype
- londons_explore 6y agoWhen in reality it was invite only because Bob down in the data center couldn't wheel in hard drives and network switches quick enough..
- astura 6y agoLiveJournal was invite-only for a number of years before Gmail existed for this exact reason - it was growing faster than the server architecture could handle. I wonder if Gmail got the idea from LiveJournal.
