I was going to read the article first for once, but got paywalled. Anyway, sorry to hear about this guy's story, but at first glance I'm also not sure what could be done about it. You can't get Bitcoin back, and Apple can't allow more than a few apps on their store without a bad one slipping through once in a while. Putting your entire life's savings in Bitcoin and then entrusting it all to an app strikes me as similar to cashing it all out and keeping it in your car or something.
