Ha! Look up "user activated soft fork" or "UASF".
Ultimately, Bitcoin is backed by node operators and widespread social consensus. Thinking China can just split and control the network is a pretty serious misunderstanding of the power dynamic in this system.. one we all had demonstrated at the conclusion of the block size wars.
- hudon 6y ago> Bitcoin is backed by node operators and widespread social consensus Satoshi wanted it to be backed by Proof of Work, but now you’re saying Bitcoin is backed by social consensus... just like the US Dollar I guess?
- jude- 6y agoWho cares what Satoshi wanted? He/she/they do not control the system.
- mujina93 6y agoYes, actually. His/her/their wallet has the majority of bitcoins. If they were to move them, everything would crash.
- hackinthebochs 6y agoProof of work is just the mechanism to determine social consensus.
- mhluongo 6y agoOf course it's backed by social consensus. Money is a social construct, not sure why you're trying to move the goalposts
