This is amazing news, hundreds of thousands of people are realizing California is a horrible state to live. It's impossible for most people to afford decent housing, I met folks who would live 20 to a three bedroom. Homelessness is off the charts, and it's not uncommon to meet people who don't exactly have a steady address and just crash at different places for short durations.
I was making 100K in LA , no prospect of being able to ever save, ever buy a home, ever meet someone with a decent job. Moved to Chicago and instantly I was able to price homes in the area, save tons of money, date a truly amazing career driven girl. I also didn't need to drive! Los Angeles is uniquely horrible because housing cost around what it does in New York, but you're still paying from 5 to 800$ monthly on car expenses.
My biggest tip to any young person is to go where you're treated best. No one should live in California in its current state. We've had decades upon decades of counterproductive housing policy. But at this point it's like trying to stop an avalanche, the politicians in the state have no real way to undo the damage.
With remote work rapidly becoming normalized, I can imagine tech workers, particularly those with families moving to better States. I'm particularly passionate about this because I had a nasty falling out with most of my family about my moving, but my life has gotten so good since.
You can't make a tenable situation when you're living in hell. I encourage anyone thinking of moving out of California to book that ticket, do it now.
