Apple App Store app stole his life savings in Bitcoin
- Tepix 6y agoThis is something I'm worried about a well. Let's say someone has written a semi-successful password keeper app and makes $200,000 per year with it. One day he realizes that there are secrets stored by the users of his app that are worth millions or perhaps even tens of millions or more. Just how much trust can you put into an app? Even if it is open source - there may be a rogue update. Either because the app developer was hacked or because he claims to have been hacked. It's scary.
- pohl 6y agoI’m not doubting the story here, but I’m amazed that one can find themselves in possession of that much BTC without already having established some better way to look up the current price.
- HomeDeLaPot 6y agoI was going to read the article first for once, but got paywalled. Anyway, sorry to hear about this guy's story, but at first glance I'm also not sure what could be done about it. You can't get Bitcoin back, and Apple can't allow more than a few apps on their store without a bad one slipping through once in a while. Putting your entire life's savings in Bitcoin and then entrusting it all to an app strikes me as similar to cashing it all out and keeping it in your car or something.
