Could Accelerated Reader be holding children's reading back?
- DanBC 6y agoI think sometimes we focus a lot on what children "should" be reading, and we can get a bit sniffy about the easy to read throwaway books that children read for pure enjoyment. But there are so many Walliams books (he's churned out over 30 since The Boy in the Dress in 2008) and children tend to get stuck in a groove of reading all of them. There are so many great books for children around at the moment. I like using the CILIP Kate Greenaway and CILIP Carnegie short and long lists to find good books. https://carnegiegreenaway.org.uk/archive/ https://carnegiegreenaway.org.uk/archive/ Someone put together this nice page (in German) which lists a lot of good books. https://www.schoene-kinderbuecher.de/ https://www.schoene-kinderbuecher.de/ If you're interested in children's books that have won awards there's this database. http://www.dawcl.com/ http://www.dawcl.com/ I know the design of the page is off-topic for HN, but my word that fixed header is enormous. On Firefox on windows 10 the actual content fits a tiny little box.
