Stuck Suez cargo ship in Microsoft Flight Simulator
- tomduncalf 6y agoDoes anyone know of an easy way to play the new Flight Sim in the cloud? I'm curious to check it out, but not curious enough to purchase a gaming computer! All the solutions I've seen sound quite involved. Ideally I'd just be able to play it with zero setup but maybe that's unrealistic...
- Rebelgecko 6y agoSupposedly after it releases on the XboxX in a few months they're going to take a look at getting it onto Xcloud. Alternatively you could use something like Shadow which looks like one of the more straightforward cloud gaming services (although I haven't tried it yet)
- tomduncalf 6y agoAh, Xcloud post Xbox would make sense! I guess I’ll wait and see :) thanks!
- toyg 6y agoFor the record: it's just a mod.
- flemhans 6y agoIt wouldn't be impossible at all to pull in locations of all ships and render them, though.
- jdmichal 6y agoOne could do a pretty good job of it too. AIS data contains position, heading, and speed. So it's everything you need to interpolate movement between data updates.
- selectodude 6y agoThe game struggles to render everything enough already.
- jhgb 6y agoIsn't that what spatial trees are for?
- Macha 6y agoIs rendering ships on approximately real world courses more rendering work than rendering them on pseudorandomly selected courses? I don't think anyone is suggesting the game ramps up the density settings or pulls in high res models for them
- sandworm101 6y agoYes. The stock ships may be scenery objects running in optimized positions/places. Realworld data would not be optimized.
- bozzcl 6y agoThe only problem being, nobody provides AIS data for free. Though I wonder how much a subscription would cost for personal use.
- tantalor 6y agoOoh do planes too. https://flightaware.com/ https://flightaware.com/
- dreen 6y agoI was under the impression the newest MS Flight Sim does have all the planes flying around according to real data.
- Nextgrid 6y agoThe new MS Flight Simulator uses Bing Maps imagery so I originally thought the satellite map happened to include the ship and thus the game would've had it as well, at least in "flat" form as a terrain texture.
- flohofwoe 6y ago"Just a mod" is a bit of an understatement I think, as I understand it, the FS2020 core product is essentially a "hub" for 1st- and 3rd-party mods.
- q_andrew 6y agoConsidering the emphasis on real time data in MSFS, I'm surprised that shipping data wasn't already used to place ships in the game map.
- Scene_Cast2 6y agoI wonder why the plane's roll was oscillating in the beginning. Some sort of an underdamped PID controller?
- julienchastang 6y agoOn the topic of Microsoft Flight Simulator, does anyone have a pre-built system they would recommend? Edit: Or a build at pcpartpicker?
- jmkni 6y agoIt's coming out for the XBOX Series S/X later this year, that might be the most cost effective way to play it.
- AdmiralAsshat 6y agoThe question will be whether the Series S/X version will run well enough to be worth buying. I'll be keeping an eye on it. My dad always wanted to fly but never learned, and the latest Microsoft Flight Simulator has looked so impressive that I've debated whether a Series S/X and MFS might not be a fun gift for him to setup in the living room. Certainly more cost and space efficient, even if he only uses the console to play that one game.
- TMWNN 6y ago>The question will be whether the Series S/X version will run well enough to be worth buying. I also wonder whether the Xbox version will support all the HOTAS, yokes, pedals, and throttles that the PC version does. Some Thrustmaster sticks aren't compatible with consoles, for example.
- zaychikk 6y agoIt really depends on how you want to play it, as the requirement difference between 1080p single screen vs. Valve Index are massive. As opposed to most other flight sims, you'll want a GPU that is pretty close in performance to your CPU (which should be as powerful as possible). So essentially you want as good as you can afford / actually find in stock.
- drivers99 6y agoIt's a bad time to build a flight-sim PC given the GPU shortage.
- agawish 6y agoI loved that the mod included the little crane as well!
- m3kw9 6y agoShould help it out by crashing into it
