It's a tool in the toolbox. I've used it in the past when I had brutal loads of Anki reviews and I wanted to get through it without my soul getting crushed. Most times I didn't need it, but if I fell behind it often did the trick. I feel like it's vastly over hyped, but also like it's an excellent tool in the right situations.
