I backed the Librem 5 and I have a Pinephone on order. Yet I can comfortably say that I don't care one bit about "Linux phones". I want a handheld Linux computer, and it just so happens that these attempts to make "phones" are the closest approximation. But if there was a mobile Linux distro that did not waste development time on features like calling, SMS or camera, and hardware that used the space wasted by camera, receiver etc for additional battery capacity, I would most certainly buy that. I'm happy to use an Android or iOS device as a smartphone. I want a pocketable computer to do things those devices cannot (or rather: refuse to) let me do.
