While I take your point that "micropayments" are that thing people are have been consistently wrong about for 25 years now... I'd be careful leaning to heavily on psychology in making prediction. There definitely needs to be a breakthrough UI, cultural shift or something... but people have the ability to background stuff given the right circumstances.
