Just to head off any speculation about the reasons I didn't study CS books, it's 100% because I Just Forgot > While reviewing this post, my friend Alex Koppel suggested another idea: comparing how much the corresponding language manuals talk about memory manipulation. In retrospect, that’s a much better idea than trawling Usenet posts. I just didn’t think of it at the time, probably because I was already trawling Usenet to understand the job market. That’s a good research lesson: don’t over fixate on one primary source.
