You don't get to decide for other people if being lied to is ok. That is a decision they have to make for themselves, and in general they will not trust people THAT LIE TO THEM. People at this scale need to be treated like sheep, but if they figure out you're herding them they stop listening to you.

Tell them what you know and let them decide for themselves how to act on that. Have faith in your fellow humans to do the right thing, even if it doesn't always seem like it is right to you. "Mother knows best" assumes everybody shares the same values and belief systems you do. That is a poor assumption.
