Container ship which has blocked the Suez Canal since Tuesday has been freed
- DesiLurker 6y agohttps://istheshipstillstuck.com https://istheshipstillstuck.com says "sort of"
- alexeldeib 6y agoI love that this site has become the go-to source. I pulled it up too when I heard the ship was free.
- kungito 6y agoSo unfortunately we lost the one thing we could all agree on
- tda 6y agoI never saw then try to use the prop wash of the tugs to wash away the sand instead of the slow digging with excavators. The canal is deep enough in the center, really the fastest way to move a lot of sand over small area is by washing it away. Especially is the area is hard to reach with big equipment. As soon as the ships propellors were freed it just have been trivial to free the stern by just goin full steam ahead. On the bow side, I wonder if they tried using the bow thruster to do the same (actually does a container vessel even have a bow thruster?)
- senectus1 6y agonot terribly precise... could very well make the issue worse by shifting all that sand somewhere else, somewhere harder to get to from the shore. I would have thought a dredger with a suction pipe would be the fastest and cheapest go-to for this sort of rescue.
