This makes me realize how hard it is to navigate a map without labels and borders... Would be nice to have a search feature to navigate to a specific location.

- bombcar 6y agoI agree - I thought cities would be noticeable but it took me a good five minutes to find the large one near where I live. Great tool for getting an idea how big this thing is.
- wyre 6y ago>Great tool for getting an idea how big this thing is. For me, it puts it into perspective how narrow the Suez canal is. Yes, Evergiven is a large boat, almost as large as my local mall, but when rotated at an angle is only 2-3 of my small neighborhood blocks wide.
- Aperocky 6y agoAt first I was like this must be Tokyo! Zoomed out and found out I was in Boston.
- tyingq 6y agoNot the world's best UI, but you can open up a js console and type: map.setView({lat: 19.7417, lng: -155.844}); And you'll be over Hawaii. map.getCenter() to see current location.
- jtolmar 6y agoIt's kind of a fun skill to learn. Zoom all the way out, find the continent, and focus on water features while zooming into where you want to be. Though the only place I've found the skill useful (besides right now) was, ironically enough, working on Google Maps.
- zimpenfish 6y agoAlso handy when playing GeoGuessr since, obviously, the little map you're putting a pin in has no search box.
- Moru 6y agoIt's also handy when trying to find zones in the gps game Turf, the Web interface only uses the satellite imagery with Google maps. Some countries does not have big lakes to orient with but instead there might be forests or surface coal mining you can use.
- StavrosK 6y agoIt depends on the place. I can see it being hard for the US, but Greece is small enough and shaped distinctly enough that I have no trouble zooming exactly to my house from the global map. Maybe that only works for places near the water, though.
- viklove 6y agoI was able to find my apartment building in downtown Chicago easily enough, but there's no way I'd be able to find my parent's place in the suburbs.
