I miss positive science fiction.
I don't want to read or see science fiction that drags me down. Reality is grim enough as it is.
Show me fictional realities that inspire me to make them real.
- yourapostasy 6y agoThe ongoing First Contact series by pseudonym Ralts Bloodthorne [1] is a space opera that could be considered optimistic in the sense of "humanity shall overcome". There is an active Discord community around it, lots of fans. - bhaak 6y agoI'm already subscribed to r/HFY but I mostly read the one-shots so far. Thanks for the recommendation, I will check it out.
- wccrawford 6y agoIf you enjoyed The Martian, you might also enjoy the Diary of a Murderbot series. Neither of them are particularly positive, but the humor in them really does it for me.
- tmoertel 6y agoI second this recommendation.
- theshrike79 6y agoThe Murderbot books are good, but holy crapballs they are expensive. Full book price for practically a novella.
- dsign 6y agoI recently read "Red Sky-Ceiling" by one such Kein Ouzunupi. It's near-future about seculars having fun in a space habitat after some sort of ideological cataclysm (social media? polarization?) brings back the middle ages on Earth. Pity it was all too short, the book.
