>Embattled scientists at AstraZeneca feel they have been unfairly targeted for trying to do something that goes against the profit-driven grain in the pharmaceutical industry – produce a low-cost, easy-to-use vaccine that will work well for low- and middle-income countries but will not make them money in the short-term.
Wonder how much of this drama is truly scientific versus economic versus political. Canada, dependent on vaccine imports with poor vaccination record, immediately rolled out unused AZ doses from US with blessing from Health Canada. Global south is just taking what they can get. India is about to ban exports to deal with 2nd wave. Hard to believe US would just gift away 1m+ doses unless science is suspect. Or economic competition between vaccine manufacturing countries is just that cut throat. Across the pond the EU/UK has their share of drama. So many idle doses out there, hard to make sense if situation is that serious or countries are that petty.
