Could we survive today if this happened? A year without any crop yields?

  The corn harvest in the US is ~1 quadrillion calories. That's ~400 calories per day per person (globally). Not good food, but calories still. So I think a large percentage of people would definitely survive, with a big swing depending on when during the year it happened and how the reaction played out.

  Isn't more likely that we'll nuke it instead to give it a 'kick' away from us?
