Can someone explain to this newbie why mine disappeared so quickly, but this stayed? I don't have a problem at all, I just wish to understand the system thanks.
- kooshball 15y agowell one reason would be OP linked to an article, you linked to a site that doesnt load...
- AndyJPartridge 15y agoAh :-) So I should have used the text option then? A broken link gets it immediately marked down? Makes sense.
- dvdhsu 15y ago> A broken link gets it immediately marked down? Makes sense. If we can't open the site, we scratch our heads and move on. On the other hand, if we can open the site, we scratch our heads and say: "Yeah right! The site isn't down! No upvote for you!"
- jschuur 15y agoI also wouldn't upvote a story that uses up the root URL to a site for a current event. If I understand HN correctly, nobody can now submit the CIA home page as a story again.
- MatthewPhillips 15y agoWhich post "wins" is pretty random, I wouldn't waste any time trying to figure out why. This isn't Digg where certain users get a million upvotes.
- AndyJPartridge 15y agoThanks all for taking the time to clear that up for me.
- danparsonson 15y agoOn a related side note, if two people submit the same URL, the second (and subsequent) submissions just up-vote the first.
