There are many challenges. For example, the ocean is a harsh environment. Also, testing at scale is tough because of the environmental permits needed to test in the ocean. But more importantly, how many people will be okay with wave machine offshore where people from shore can see them? People of nearly all political persuasions don't like manmade objects in the oceans. I don't know how a wave energy industry overcomes this.
- neom 6y agoThe wave roller technology they discuss in the video specifically addressed these challenges....
- jfengel 6y agoIs there a discussion of it that isn't a video? Video is a terrible way to study a topic in any depth.
- neom 6y agoI'm not sure I agree video is a terrible way to study a topic in depth, I've watched a lot of fantastic lectures and series of documentaries that cover a breadth of topics in depth. Happy to point you to a few if you've not experienced that, it's an awesome way to learn. I don't suppose that the Bloomberg "Quicktake" video is supposed to be used to study the topic in depth, I would imagine they put it out to give one enough information to do your own research?
- jfengel 6y agoSo I'll take it that's a "no", then? Text is a much better way for me to look at a topic deeply. I can reread a sentence, copy and paste things into Google, and generally take it at my pace rather than theirs. Text can contain links to further information Things that exist only in video make me suspicious that they're persuading me rather than informing me.
- neom 6y agoWith dyslexia, text is a completely useless way for me to ingest or store information, i remember near nothing I read.
