My Engineering Philosophy
- jschveibinz 6y agoGood article. I appreciate the emphasis on thought, planning and design. > “ Engineering planning should never be about finding the most detailed solution, it should be about finding the simplest solution that solves the problem.” This is a great statement for applied science, but for engineering I would add these additional words: “...safely and responsibly, for the lowest cost and shortest schedule that is achievable.” Engineering is inherently about getting things built that take a whole variety of requirements and stakeholders into account, including cost, schedule, resources, regulations, safety, social concerns, etc. This is true of both hardware and software engineering. The arrival of rapid development tools has not necessarily been a boon to engineering, to product quality or to society. Instead, we are possibly in a race to the bottom.
