Do people still use Clojure? For a while I was really hot on Clojure ... but then I haven't had a project in ten years where it even makes sense to introduce it into operations ... generally I've got Python or Go on the server and some mix of JS, Dart, Objective C, or Kotlin on the front end depending on the client platform.
Maybe someday I'll be responsible for writing a system back end from scratch and I can take off on a flight of fancy like this.
- bcrosby95 6y agoI think a fair number of people successfully use Clojure for both the frontend (clojurescript) and backend, if that's your thing.
- beders 6y agoWe have 4 open reqs for Clojure devs. It's still an attractive platform to be honest. Our frontends and backends are Clojure/ClojureScript and we wouldn't want it any other way
- nanomonkey 6y agoCompany?! I'm looking for a good Clojure team to join.
- bdeva 6y agoApple is hiring Clojure developers: https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200231079/apple-media-products-software-engineer-clojure-java-core-services?team=SFTWR https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200231079/apple-media-p...

- beders 6y agoCompany is dividendfinance.com Keep an eye on /r/clojure or the #remote-jobs channel at clojurians for details
- ohpauleez 6y agoKevel is hiring Clojure devs as well! https://www.kevel.co/careers/ https://www.kevel.co/careers/
- wrnr 6y agoWhat is the sweat spot for clojure? Seems like it could be useful in places where the programmers are also responsible for "data entry" and it's better to use a lisp instead of xml or java annotations.
- raspasov 6y agoAnywhere where Java/JVM languages (server) or JavaScript (clients + server) is appropriate.
- cutler 6y agoSince a large part of the Java world revolves around Spring I can hardly see Clojure being relevant. Now Kotlin, that's a different story.
- raspasov 6y agoIf Spring is a hard requirement, sure. Writing Java-in-Clojure is pointless. I meant it more in the sense if you value simplicity and you are starting a project more or less from scratch or integrating into a good Java project that doesn’t rely on crufty frameworks.
- fulafel 6y agoThe JVM is incidental for most Clojure projects I think.
- phyrex 6y agoThe creator, Rich Hickey, explains that Clojure has been explicitly designed for 'situated programs' in this talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V1FtfBDsLU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V1FtfBDsLU
- fulafel 6y agoIT's a good functionally biased general purpouse dynamic language, with lots of libraries available, quick edit/debug feedback cycle, good tooling, and also works on the frontend where it can share code with the backend. So a lot of things.
- d_t_w 6y agoI've been working commercially with Clojure for ten years. My gut feeling is the language is well subscribed and growing at a flat rate. That's fine by me.
- didibus 6y agoCan confirm as well, still use it at work for building all new stuff. > but then I haven't had a project in ten years where it even makes sense to introduce it into operations You don't really need a reason, if you want too and like the language and working with it makes you happier and more productive go for it. Because there's also no reason not too.
- elwell 6y agoWe've been happily using it front and back for years: https://jobs.lever.co/reifyhealth?lever-via=yGp_ZL60fy&team=Engineering https://jobs.lever.co/reifyhealth?lever-via=yGp_ZL60fy&team=...
- tbatchelli 6y agoDefinitely people still use. We are heavily invested and investing in clojure and clojurescript.
- Scarbutt 6y agoOnly the zealots are left using it. You can see this in how many Clojure posts make it to the front page but have very little comments.
