I don't like it that there are systems on equipment that i buy that i'm not "allowed to" access. Worse yet are those i'm not "allowed to" know about. I take such tactics as a personal snub from the manufacturer. They don't trust me (ok, they are right). But worse, they are making decisions for me, about how much i can be trusted. I find it highly paternalistic and infuriating. Laws should be made giving the end user very reasonable access to every component, and all levels of their system, without needing the blessing of external servers .
