Unions could be so much better than they are now. They have become fat, lazy and protectionist. It used to be about making sure you had the best trained people to bring value to the employer and employee...now it's about screwing over the employer until they are broke and taking as much money in union dues as possible until the employee doesn't have a job. The union leaders are no better than any greedy company execs...except they don't actually produce anything of value.
