With a more professional presentation, this could be more palatable to people :)
Accept issues, avoid one or two word explanations for questions ("Cool", "Syntax", etc.), replace the "hack" text in the source with a "TODO" or something, use more thoughtful variable names, make a good case for using this syntax over the available alternatives, and make good commit messages.
If this was part of your portfolio and I was looking to hire you, I would definitely have you in the "maybe" pile (instead of the "yes" pile) because of the apparent lack of skill in documentation, communication, and sympathy for your fellow devs. I would hate to work at a company that supported this style of presentation.
You went through the trouble of creating a test file, but it's empty :(
Aside from that, I think the syntax looks good!
- graderjs 6y agoAww, thank you, that's nice of you to make an effort to say something here. :) You should check out my portfolio, there's awesome communication there, and great documentation, and thousands of stars. I like your criticisms, but when you write from what seems to be the point of view where you don't assume that i had good reasons for some of those decisions, you come across as not understanding nor empathizing with me very well, so i wonder how useful your words could be if you don't even get me. But aside from that, I did really like your criticisms, or some of them, so definitely please keep trying at that, maybe you could offer some ideas for improvement on 22120 and ViewFinderJS. I know it's not your job, but you pointed out a bunch of stuff so far, I just think you could be helpful with a bit more work. All in all my advice to you is when commenting on show hn make the assumption that the person you're speaking to had very good reasons for making the decisions they did, otherwise it can come across as talking down to, or saying you're so smart and the person you're talking to is not. And underneath what you're saying i sense a genuine desire to be helpful, so these tips about empathy and framing could definitely help you realize that desire with more useful contributions about others works. Thank you very much :)
