First, Intel has bought several businesses and some of them (Altera for example) have a pre-existing relationship with TSMC. Second, every wafer that Intel fabs at TSMC is a wafer that AMD cannot fab at TSMC. Intel plays defense on pricing and supply by producing with TSMC. Not to mention the greater market awareness that Intel gains by being a client of its competitor.
