The new UX on the site is unusable. I don't use anything except old.reddit.com and if they ever try to get rid of that, I'll surely stop visiting the site altogether. You have to wonder how long they'll continue to maintain two different web frontends for the site, though.
- tsujp 6y agoI'm exclusively on old.reddit.com too. The new interface was the start of the worst, and while we're not directly in the firing line in terms of viewing content and navigation on old.reddit.com we are at the mercy of the general winds of change over the site.
- easton 6y agoThe problem is that all of the mega content creators and moderators use old reddit due to RES and the other extensions (and the better UX). I think they’ll build a equivalent to TweetDeck that can be used for more powerful content creation (automatic xposting, timed posts, performance stats) and sunset old reddit, maybe with a throwback theme on new reddit. And then I’ll finally quit.
- tomjen3 6y agoThey have maintained i.reddit.com (an actually useful mobile site) for years at this point.
- notJim 6y agoWhat's the issue with it? I see nothing but hate, but I honestly don't mind the new design. Edit: lol, I participate in a lot of contentious threads here, but this simple question where I am genuinely trying to understand something has generated the most downvotes.
- notwhereyouare 6y agofor me personally, it's slower to load and seems to have more issues. There's a good chance if new reddit is struggling to load, old.reddit.com loads just fine
- icholy 6y agoIt's slow.
- s_dev 6y agoPeople who are used to it are mostly power users generating content for reddit and their subs. It's absolutely reddits right to ignore their preferences but also at their peril. Reddit is precariously close to doing a 'Digg'.
- Mountain_Skies 6y agoDigg had Reddit waiting in the wings to take advantage of their missteps. While other Reddit-like sites exist, none of them seem to be capable or even desire to be the next Reddit. The opportunity is certainly there but there's little interest most likely because Reddit has no good path to profitability. Anyone who invests in a Reddit killer would need to do it for reasons other than monetary.
- smegger001 6y agothe only people wanting to be reddit are filled with political extremist, racist, fascist, and anarcho libertarians.
- roguas 6y agonot personally triggered, but putting side by side racist, fascist and ancap is a little unfair?
- ncann 6y agoIt's slow and not very responsive. Everything from opening a thread, to expanding/collapsing a comment thread and pretty much all other operations are slow. Definitely a lot slower than old plain reddit or HN. It wastes too much screen estates for no reason. On my screen about half the width is wasted on the left and right blank spaces. It breaks a lot of subs' custom theming. The comment section navigation is horrible. It only shows comment maybe 5-6 level deep and if you expand then you will have to "go back" later. When you first go into a thread, it also doesn't show all comments, and instead requires an additional click to "View entire discussion".
- bulibuta 6y agoI use teddit.net since it was first posted here on HN. Can't login, but the UX is awesome, just like Old Reddit!
- ncann 6y agoHow is it different from old.reddit?
- darkhorse13 6y agoTry scrolling down a few hundred posts and your browser will literally crash because there is clearly memory leak on their SPA.
