Nobody should be under any illusion that they "own" their subreddits.
- fnordfnordfnord 6y agoEh. Reddit is very unlikely to do that. The subreddits would be overrun with trash pretty quickly.
- VectorLock 6y agoThere are legions of people who would be frothing at the mouth for the opportunity to be given mod on a popular subreddit.
- fnordfnordfnord 6y agoYeah and quite a large fraction of those should probably never be granted mod powers over even something as insignificant as a subreddit.
- VectorLock 6y agoI don't disagree with you but the point is that is entirely within Reddit's discretion, not ours.
- TameAntelope 6y agoModerators provide much less unique/irreplacable value than the current narrative suggests. However, the philosophical positioning Reddit has taken historically is that the Moderators own the subreddits, so yanking one away wholly from the moderation group would mark a substantial shift away from that positioning. Maybe that's a good thing for Reddit, though.
- VectorLock 6y ago>yanking one away wholly from the moderation group Not much of a departure -- they've done it.
- TameAntelope 6y agoAnd I've eaten an entire pizza, but that doesn't mean my philosophy of eating generally so I don't become obese is invalid.
- hda2 6y agoI think you got it backwards. Reddit not yanking subreddits is an exception that is only afforded to the largest and most visible subs. Reddit absolutely loves to yank smaller subreddits from mods.
- TameAntelope 6y agoHow would you know what Reddit as an organization likes to do? Seems anthropomorphic to me...
