Genuine question: why "EVER GIVEN" when "EVERGREEN" is written on the side of the ship?
Someone with insider knowledge: is this a typo or similar error? How does it happen and proliferate without being corrected?
- cotillion 6y agoEvergreen is the shipping line which owns the ship. I guess they name their ships Ever <something>.
- mkl 6y agoFrom the Twitter thread: "For the confused: MV EVER GIVEN's operator is Evergreen Marine (https://evergreen-line.com https://evergreen-line.com) and Ever___ is a naming convention for some vessels."
- skore 6y agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ever_Given https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ever_Given vs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evergreen_Marine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evergreen_Marine
- manigandham 6y ago"Evergreen" is the name of the shipping company. "Ever Given" is the name of the ship and written in smaller font on the bow and (always) on the stern.
- anu7df 6y agoI think Evergreen is the shipping company. The name of the ship could be Ever Given.
- wscott 6y agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_container_ships https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_container_ship... scroll down to #13 and read the names of the sister ships. The evergreen shipping line has 7 identical ships named "Ever XXX"
- eloisius 6y agoEvergreen is a Taiwanese conglomerate that owns several freighters (along with an airline, hotels, god knows what else)
- austinjp 6y agoHehehe okay, I'll take the downvote and repeated comments :) Serves me right for not thinking twice! Genuinely didn't occur to me that it might be something other than a typo that went rogue. Ho hum.
