As an auto enthusiast, I’m all for it. EV and public transit for commuting — ICE for specialized and more emotional uses.

That land is going to farmed in an industrial way which is not sustainable. If we increase the use of biofuels, that % is going to increase - most likely by destroying other ecosystems to increase the total amount of agricultural land. If these synthetic fuels have a similar price point to existing fossil fuels, then that's going to delay the rollout of EVs. What if we simply tax existing fuels fairly, taking into account the carbon and pollution they produce? In say 20 years time, when you can get a base model EV for the same price and range as a Toyota Corolla today, pretty much everyone in the developed world will be driving EVs. Even today the fuel costs are much less than ICE vehicles, it's just the initial cost of the car that needs to come down. The only people still buying ICE vehicles will be as you say, those who have specialized or emotional uses. If someone buys a Porsche Cayman GTS to race around the track on the weekend, they can probaby afford to pay €5/litre for fuel.
