There is enough hireable talent. Samsung is producing 8nm at volume, and TSMC 7nm, with Apple reserving all of the upcoming 5nm. Clearly the talent is there to support multiple cutting edge nodes developed in parallel. Whether Intel could afford to hire multiple teams like that is a different question.
