When a self-driving car company can have its AI drive around in an Arizona suburb, nobody sane believes that it means they can also drive around in Kolkata, India. However that is basically what happened with the Dota 2 AI effort by OpenAI. They managed to succeed in an extremely limited scenario and then proceeded to put out press releases claiming they had beat Dota 2.
