Humans are not reliable narrators. We have been fooled about observed phenomena so badly so many times before. Aliens are exciting so people want to believe. It’s boring to conclude that your brain spazzed out and you saw something that wasn’t real. Or that you saw some strange looking natural phenomena that you don’t understand. But this happens all the time. Not to mention hallucinations, altered mental stages, optical illusions, exotic atmospheric phenomena, and so on... I would need the most compelling evidence humanly imaginable to seriously consider the idea.
