Would be interested in learning more about the FOIA request process. It seems quite nebulous to me, not sure how to request the "right" piece of information.
- chaps 6y agoThe best way to start is to just send an email to a government agency whose information you're interested in. You'll need to find the contact information for them, but that should be easy with a quick google search. Something like this to get a roster of new cops between 2019 and 2020 should work: "Pursuant to $FOIA_LAW, please provide me with the following information for all cops hired between 2019 and 2020: -Cop Name -Cop Badge # -Cop Race -Hired date -Age -Direct Lead name/badge/age" And done. In theory, two weeks later you should get back the records you're looking for. Try adding as much information as can for what you're interested in. The bullet points are just examples. (this is not legal advice and is just based on my own experiences with foia)
