Planning and strategy are important, but logistics (which is a subset of planning) is generally more important. The US didn't defeat Iraq in GW1 by using superior technology; there was a point where Iraqi forces could have continued into Saudi Arabia and made things a fait accompli. What defeated Iraq was US logistics. We first inserted the 82nd Airborne as a speed bump, and in roughly 8 days we have F-15s from the 1st TFW, F-16s, AWACs, A-10s, F-117 etc etc deployed to Saudi Arabia.
Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics.
