The root issue seems to be that this particular police force is allowed to harass people for no good reason related to past or present crime. The goofy reasons they use to justify this behaviour are irrelevant.
- throwaway0a5e 6y agoThe reason this police force is allowed and has the capacity to do this is because this is a gentrifying suburb of Tampa. Gentrifying suburbs have no shortage of people seeking to force conformism on everyone else, money available for boondoggle policing and poors (i.e. a large chunk of existing residents) who a subset of the new residents think need to be controlled for their own good.
