Cold fusion is one of my favorite hypothetical technologies. The rationale makes so much sense, and it would be such a game-changer. (I'm guessing it doesn't actually exist, but still... lovely idea...)
- pfdietz 6y agoThe rationale makes no sense. You plug the numbers into the equation for the expected fusion rate and you get something indistinguishable from zero.
- raverbashing 6y agoYes because all new discoveries obey the known equations right? - Ultraviolet catastrophe - Solar neutrino rate - Precession of Mercury etc
- spuz 6y agoIt sounds like you're agreeing with the statement "the rationale makes no sense".
- raverbashing 6y ago"The rationale makes no sense" cannot be used to disprove something with lots of unknowns. Of course having a theory that match current understanding would be helpful.
- pfdietz 6y agoGood thing I wasn't trying to do that. What I was doing was arguing the statement "The rationale makes so much sense" is bullshit. No, the rationale made no sense. It directly contradicted what was known. Now, sometimes things that make no sense turn out to be true, but that's very rare (especially when the newly claimed thing requires not one but multiple miracles to be real), and not what I was addressing.
