Maybe if credit unions and the like had accounts where each deposit triggers a message about how that deposit is making them more money, and contrast it to the zero gain of just spending it... Text, email, or paper mail, something that reminds people that what they're doing will benefit them could help slowly change attitudes where possible. (I know there are some people who play for fun, who don't figure into this; and others who are habitual players, who probably won't listen; but some could learn and benefit from this.)
