- WestOaklandfan 6y agoI would agree with such an interpretation, perhaps doing good is more than just creating existentialism around anybody being able to transition into anything. The people who're into these kinds of identity politics, seem to have priorities revolving around their identities, and the rest of their beliefs are skewed by their not particularly intellectual identities
- john_moscow 6y agoMy position is that there is something going on with humanity (post-industrialization? social media? too long time since a world war? something completely different?) that is incentivizing dark social patterns that are destructive in the long run. And that while we are all condemning this behavior on the other side of the globe, we ourselves are suffering from a variant of the same disease. And that we should focus on figuring out and fixing the root cause, if we do not want to share the fate of the countries we like calling "the 3rd World". My theory is that in order to respect each other, people have to need each other. Not as in "need a commoditized pair of hands", but as "need I person who's professional opinion is so important to me, that I can look over some personal quirks". And that person's self-esteem would then come from their professional opinion being needed and respected, so they wouldn't be forced to resort to victim Olympics as the only way to get attention. And the low interest rates and numerous bailouts are eroding this type of relation at an increasing pace.
