Brazil fines Apple $2M for choosing not to ship chargers with iPhone 12
- kevincox 6y agoI think this is silly. Sure, including the chargers was a "sneaky" way to basically raise the price, but they were fairly transparent with consumers what they were getting.
- totalZero 6y agoThe excuse of reduction in e-waste is disingenuous in light of the fact that previous chargers won't work with the cable included with iPhone 12. Not sure I'd describe that as transparency.
- bdcravens 6y agoThe cable that was included with previous chargers will however still work. As for why even include a cable then, perhaps that's to connect to any of Apple's current computers, all of which have USB-C (and laptops have no USB-A)
- m463 6y agoI think you basically have to buy the phone, a charger, a case (since those change too) and probably earbuds.
- bdcravens 6y agoTo be fair, the phone functions perfectly fine without a case or earbuds.

- bdcravens 6y agoThat's not the only reason they were fined: "Parts of the fine are also for misleading advertising, bad customer support, and unfair terms of service. Procon-SP cites Apple’s refusal to repair some iPhone 11 Pros damaged by water, after advertising them as waterproof, as an example of all three."
- stu2b50 6y agoI know this response happens every time a #BigTech company gets fined, but I feel like this is like even more ridiculously small? Forget Apple, most multinational companies could absorb a 2 million dollar fine without even needing to bring it up to the CFO. This quote just seems kinda silly with the amount >Apple needs to understand that in Brazil, there are solid consumer protection laws and institutions. It needs to respect these laws and these institutions. Yeah Apple has really had the law laid on them with this massive fine.
- shric 6y agoLet's see. 111.4 billion dollars of revenue last quarter. 2 million dollars/(111.4 billion dollars per 0.25 years) ≈ 2.36 minutes of revenue. Yup, that'll show 'em.
- RedditKon 6y agoApple: Oh no! Anyway.
- Barrin92 6y agoI mean the specifics aside if you fine them at least add two zeroes to that number because I'm pretty sure two million bucks is less than they saved on the chargers
