A Breakup Plan to Save Intel and Preserve National Security
- hedora 6y agoWait, what? They want Intel to spin off its fabs to guarantee the success of US based chip manufacturing, citing AMD as a success story. Then they cite data showing that AMD’s old fab business (GlobalFoundaries) is a distant #3. A quick internet search shows their market share is steadily dropping. (Intel should probably open its foundaries up, but going the IP-only route, like AMD, means they won’t plow profits back into the fab business, just as AMD isn’t using their recent success to invest in next-gen fabs.)
