You are 100% right. I don't mean to imply my family's values around money are in any way ideal. They're antiquated, way too conservative, inherited from hard times. My point is that worshipping frugality, independence and wealth-building is less likely to mess up my life than yearning for a $30M Porsche collection. Sorry if I didn't make my point very well.
